Journalist

I believe that it is important for intellectuals to pursue and apply their intellect not only to things that really matter to them (i.e. their strengths/passions) but also to things that really matter to the world. For this reason, I am a huge fan of alternative media and facts that reveal facets of our world that are under-reported by mainstream media, especially Vox.com among many others, (DemocracyNow, Al Jazeera, Associated Press etc). I have been trying to make my own contribution to the world of media and communication, and these are the articles that I have written for various non-academic media (or, as The Conversation says, 'academic journalism', which is a beautiful phrase).

Sexey's School: Notable Former Alumni (Nigel Vincent). Published in Wikipedia, November 2018.

As an academic and freelance journalist, I believe strongly in freedom of expression and research. There is no way we can allow our #freedomofexpression to be curtailed, since it is in our rights as modern #netizens of global #democracy to have this precious opportunity for self-expression. I encourage you to take part in our fight against recent controversial decisions to reduce #netneutrality. Please consider signing the following petitions to protect the common people's access to the web of knowledge.

‘Troubled times engender linguistic creativity'. Published in Asia Times Online, Opinion column, 30th September 2019.
